Cold Chain Monitoring for Reliable Supply Chains

Transporting and storing temperature-sensitive goods is one of the most demanding aspects of modern logistics. Even a short delay or a small deviation in the temperature range can result in spoiled food, ineffective vaccines or flowers that lose their value. With our cold chain monitoring solution, companies gain visibility of every step in the supply chain. Real-time data from monitoring devices shows the exact temperature conditions and provides alerts whenever thresholds are exceeded.

Where Cold Chain Solutions Improve Food, Pharma and Logistics

  • In the food and beverage sector, continuous temperature monitoring in refrigerated trucks makes it possible to detect even minor excursions and intervene before an entire load of perishable goods is lost. With our GPS Tracking for Trucks and Semi Trucks, operators can also combine location data with cold chain monitoring for complete control of their fleet
  • In the pharmaceutical industry, vaccines, insulin and other temperature-sensitive products require precise regulation, and cold chain management ensures that storage and transport remain compliant with international standards.
  • In hospitality and catering, restaurants and hotels avoid costly spoilage thanks to monitoring systems that trigger alerts when refrigeration units fail, even outside working hours.
  • In floristry and agriculture, controlled climate conditions during storage and transport help flowers and plants retain freshness, delivering a higher product quality to demanding customers.

Cold Chain Management for Compliance and Supply Chain Efficiency

Sectors such as healthcare and food production must meet strict regulatory compliance requirements, where accurate and transparent documentation is mandatory. Our cold chain management solutions automatically log every measurement and event throughout the supply chain, storing temperature data digitally.

Temperature Deviation and Limits

For example, if a refrigerated truck transporting dairy products experiences a temperature excursion, the monitoring system records the incident and generates a compliance-ready report for inspectors. This approach reduces manual paperwork, simplifies audits, and strengthens visibility across operations while supporting efficiency and reliability. At the same time, the system works hand in hand with our telematics solution for trucks, giving companies a complete view of both vehicle performance and cold chain stability.

Modern temperature monitoring systems are a cornerstone of safe transport and storage of sensitive products. Through real-time monitoring, even small temperature fluctuations can be identified before they affect product quality. For example, in cold storage of dairy products, a rise of just 2°C can significantly reduce shelf life, while in pharmaceutical logistics, a deviation of less than 1°C may already compromise vaccine safety. By recording such data continuously, companies gain digital evidence for audits and full visibility across the supply chain.

This not only prevents spoilage of perishable goods but also ensures that international compliance standards are met in daily operations.

Cold Chain Tracking, Temperature Monitoring and Daily Operations

AREALCONTROL integrates cold chain tracking, temperature monitoring and compliance tools into one platform. Vehicles, warehouses and containers are connected, making it easy to monitor temperature-controlled environments and detect deviations instantly. Users can access real-time data via smartphones or computers, and automated reports document every step for regulatory compliance. Whether managing cold chain logistics for a fleet of refrigerated vans, transporting temperature-sensitive goods across borders, or supervising storage in warehouses, the system provides visibility, reduces spoilage, and improves trust in the supply chain.

Hardware for Real-Time Temperature Monitoring of Your Cold Chain Logistics

In cold chain logistics, a few degrees can mean the difference between profit and loss.

We offer two hardware options:

  1. The combination of telematics systems with GPS tracking and wireless Bluetooth® BLE sensors.
This provides maximum transparency and prevents costly losses due to temperature fluctuations and theft. Multiple BLE sensors can monitor the individual cold storage room or be attached to the goods themselves.
Advantage: Quick and easy installation. Disadvantage: The BLE sensors operate on internal batteries that need to be replaced after 3-5 years.

  2. Telematics box, also known as a GPS tracker, with a wired temperature sensor.
Advantage: The control unit itself can be installed outside the cold storage rooms, and an approximately 10-meter-long (11yrds) cable with a temperature sensor is run into the interior of the cold storage rooms.
Installation must be carried out professionally. The temperature sensor is positioned on the ceiling of the rooms, as it is warmer there than at floor level, thus ensuring reliable temperature monitoring.

Temperature measurement is a science in itself. Our hardware is GDP certified; EN12830.
The precision of the measurements is 0.1°-0.2°C.
